Rosewood Gate Estate Land Sale

At our May Gathering, new Rosewood local Jack Treschman joined us.  Jack talked about his interest in starting a Local group for metal detectors. He has bought a house in Mill Lane off Matthew Street and searched the grounds, finding coins and objects such as an old pocket watch, deeper down than usual. He found on Trove that in 1886 when Rosewood Gate was subdivided, every purchaser was given a pocket watch. We wondered if the pocket watch he found was one of these on offer so we went looking for an answer.

Front and back of pocket watch found by Jack Treschman.

Unfortunately we found out that it is not a Waterbury Watch. The most obvious difference being the Crown or knob used for winding and adjusting time at the top of the winding stem was located on top of the watch as shown in this photo of an 1884 Waterbury Watch, and was contained within the the Bow or loop used to clip a chain.

Other objects found by Jack.

Jack is looking for places around the area that will allow him to search and anyone interested in being part of a metal detector group.  Contact us and we will pass on your details to him. enquiries@rosewoodhistory.au
